    The United Confederacy of the World -

    After World War II, most of the countries of the world agree that to avoid conflict and to avoid having any more wars they would all combine and form a new, super-powerful country, the United Confederacy of the Wor    ld. Only a few countries don't agree, those being, China, North Korea, and France. 

    Over time, these three countries agree to be part of the United Confederacy and by the middle of the 1980's, the entire world is one country. This country is run under four governments, the central, continental, district, and municipal governments. Each continent has it's own capital where it's government sits and the world government sits in London, Europe. 


    By the early 2000s, Antarctica becomes inhabited and by the end of 2021, all the minds in the world have combined to send the first humans to Mars to eventually colonize it and send inhabitants to live there. The flag above is the flag of the United Confederacy of the World.

    Greater Hellenic Commonwealth

    After the Greek war of independence in the 19th century, the Kingdom of Greece goes one step further and takes Istanbul and claims it as Constantinople. Moreover, with massive Russian, British, and French aid, Greece tak    es the western coast of Anatolia, modern day Macedonia, and Northern Epirus, crippling the power of the Ottoman empire. In 1840, the GHC takes Magna Graecia from the kingdom of Sicily after the Greco-Sicilian war. 
    38 years later, the GHC takes Cyprus instead of the British and lives in a dangerous, but normal peace until WWI. When the GHC side with the Triple Entente and battle the Ottomans once again, and the GHC takes all of Anatolia, causing the Ottoman empire to fall. WWI still ends in 1918 and the Greeks make Greater Armenia and Kurdistan a reality by the 1920's. The GHC loses their Italian possessions during the great depression to Italy but regain it during WWII and they side with NATO during the Cold war. 


    The Democratic Republic of South China (aka South China)

    The people in southern China had always demanded democracy and capitalism and had many riots, which always failed. But they decide to push it in another direction peaceful. The Chinese government wanted to end the protests for good and use hard forces to get the message clear; they ended up creating a massacre and killed the protesters, even the non participants got caught in the fire. 
    This caused anger to the southern Chinese and a civil war broke out. Despite their lack of military they had an advantage over the fact the Chinese government was weak. If you think of the American Revolution and how it turned out for the rebels, you get the idea. Eventually China gave up the fight and the southern Chinese gained independence for their new democratic nation.

    Republic of Michigan-Poland

    Polish immigrants come to Toledo even earlier than in our timeline. When the Poles settle in the area known as the Toledo strip in the 1820s, they do not learn English and instead keep speaking Polish as their only language. A large settlement grows on the Port of Lake Erie and the Maumee River, this settlement later becomes Lake Erie City. As more and more Poles come to the Toledo Strip, the area becomes more Polish than American. Due to the Toledo Strip being disputed, the U.S federal government holds a referendum on if the Toledo Strip should join Michigan or Ohio. 
    The majority of the votes are for joining Michigan, this prevents the Toledo war from ever happening. Even though Michigan gained the Toledo Strip, Michigan still keeps the Upper Peninsula. The government of the Michigan territory allows the Toledo Strip to have Polish as its official language and gives the area autonomy within the territory of Michigan. More and more Poles settle into not only into the Toledo Strip but also into the rest of the Michigan territory. The Michigan territory does not wish to be given statehood. Eventually Poles make up the majority of the population in the Michigan territory and Polish speakers greatly out number English speakers. 

    The Michigan territory is largely uninvolved in the American civil war. After the civil war, the U.S becomes more interested in English traditions due to a more large amount of English Americans than in our timeline, as a result of this, the U.S government sees the Michigan Territory as not true American territory so the U.S government tries to enforce English traditions,customs and language on the Michigan territory however this fails. With the people of the Michigan territory felling untrustworthy of the U.S government, the Michigan territorial government declares independence from the United States as the Republic of Michigan-Poland. 

    With the U.S military still having the affects of the American civil war, the U.S government decides to agree to the independence of Michigan to avoid more conflict. The Republic of Michigan-Poland remains neutral in world politics and large amount of Poles from Poland move to Michigan-Poland during the World Wars. Today the official language of the Republic of Poland-Michigan is Polish and the regional languages are English,Ojibwe,Potawatomi,and Odawa. Today the amount of Polish diaspora around the world is little or none because most Poles either stayed in Poland or came to the Republic of Michigan-Poland. 
    Today the culture of the Republic of Michigan-Poland is mostly Polish along with several Native American cultures however stuff like how roads and modern buildings look are more similar to that of roads and modern buildings in the United States. Most people in the Republic of Michigan-Poland do not have Polish accents, instead they have accents more similar to the Mid-Western American/central Canadian accent despite speaking Polish.


    United States of America (USA)

    In the aftermath of the American Revolution all of the British North American colonies gain independence, including those in what would one day become Canada. This brings all of the colonies into the United States.

    This alternate USA continues to expand, similar to how it did in our timeline, with the Spanish - American war still occurring. However places owned by the Spanish, such as Cuba and Mexico, seeing the strength of the American's, join what they call their "cousins" to the north. The USA also sends settlers into parts of Canada and eventually claims it as their own, as most of it is uninhabitable anyway. America eventually gains Alaska, all of Central America and even Greenland, uniting the North American continent under the U.S. government.

    Today the USA is the worlds most largest, richest and most powerful nation and dominates world politics (even more than today). It is also one of the worlds most diverse nations having both Caucasian and Hispanic ethnicity and English and Spanish language, as well as possessing a predominantly Protestant population in the north, with a catholic population in the south.

    The one star on the flag represents the idea of a "United" continent.




    The New Colonial Earth

    Global warming Starts huge Fires in Civilized areas. Half of the world Escapes to Northern Areas, like Arctic Canada, Greenland, Northern Russia, Alaska and Most Importantly, Iceland. The other half motsly Perishes by Dehidration, Disease, Famine and the Fires. A Native Icelander (For the sake of the Scenario, let's call him Vatnisen) Calls for an Idea creatively named the Vatnisen Plan: After burns stop and Areas can be Used again, Refugees will return to their homes, and Work for their "Regions" (The Levant, Iberia etc) Which will Send the Crops, Products and such to a Global network, that will divide them and return them to each Region, Population- wise. Everyone will work and get what they need. 


    Leftovers will be Used to Rebuild the World itself. Many doubt this Socialist plan, however Most of the Survivors agree with the Plan. The World Center is built near Rejavik, and People are sent back to their homes. Agriculture starts nearby the remaining Water Sources, And Population checks are made each month. Crops are sent to the Regional Centers, in which they are checked and Divided by Types, and sent to the World Center, which Divides them Equally to Every person and sends them back to the Regional Centers population wise, according to the Population Checks. 

    This plan is proved Successful in Rebuilding the Coasts, and now, People try to Start Civilisation with Pipes, and Build new Factories to restore Industry quickly.


    The Kingdom of Kraków.
    Sanic teh Heghog The free city of Kraków never get's annexed in 1841,instead the uprising succeeds and the Prussians,Russians and Austrains simply don't care about such little land and let the free city of Kraków exist,Kraków becomes a elected monarchy and have some of the best cavalry in europe,many poles flee to the dutchy of Krakow,Marie Curie's family moves to Krakow,and Marie Curie is thought in the university of Krakow,the monarchy is split into four in 1876, the German royal family,the Austrian royal family,Russian royal family and the Krakówian royal family,in the 1892 this leads to a civil war, Marie Curie and her faimly flee to France for the duration of the civil war,the strongest faction inside Kraków is German royal family,the weakest is the Austrian,after three years the civil war ends,the German royal family has gained victory (mainly due to the german monarchy supporting the rebels with men and weaponry)total death was 7.32K-8.34 men and women,the russians are blamed for the civil war by the German royal family,the most important figure in the civil war was Genera lGrzegorz Staniław Jedrej Sobczyk,known for his cunning tactics and winning against better equpied enemy armies he was loyal to the krakówian royal family until the bitter end in Nówa Góra he was known for his mercy and generosity to his enemies.The nation never recovered fully until 1923 from that civil war.

    WW1 happens,the German royalty in Kraków enters the war and sides with the central powers,though Krakow only able to send ammunitions and weaponry to the Germans and Austrians it still helped the central powers a bit,in 1918 Krakow is the last non-surrendered central power and refuses to surrender,the Americans send a force (comprised of 10k men) to deal with Kraków, they did not expect much from them due to the civl war in the 1890s and don't think much of their general survived either as most were killed in the civil war,the Americans notice how all cities are undefended and most of the country side evacuated,once they arrived near Krakow (the city) the Americans get ambushed by a force of 7K Krakowian troops, (led by General Grzegorz Staniław Jedrej Sobczyk,who was an important general in the civil war)the Americans shocked retreated to Germany,now considered a threat the French,Britsh and their troops from the empire and Americans send a force of approximately 234.56K soldiers to deal with Krakow, the Monarchy and General Grzegorz Staniław Jedrej Sobczyk finding out of the army coming decided to ask for peace due to their small army never able to defeat the allied powers,the war to end all wars officaly ended on the twenty seventh of December 1918,Krakow had to pay twenty two thousand Krakówian Złoty,the Public was outraged but the monarchy was forced to ablige,as in our Timeline Poland was released,and asked the League of Nations to incoporate it into Poland in 1922 but was denied,the Poles were outraged and almost went to war,but the Polish-Bolshevik war prevented them from doing so. The German royal family was not as supported anymore,instead the Krakówian Royal family was voted in on the second of October 1932 after King's Sigmund Heine the first death, Królowa Wiktoria Janczewska,General Grzegorz Staniław Jedrej Sobczyk was promoted to the High Command of the Krakówian Armed Forces. In 1938 after the Czechoslovkian government gave Sudetenland's to the Third Reich,the Kraków was on high alert and the Monarchy (of all the factions) remainded people that they are in fact neutral,the people were worried even more when Czechoslovakia was taken over by the third reich,some predicted an invasion of their state in 1940 but were shocked when the third reich declared war on the second republic of Poland. Kraków mobilized instantly,preparing to fight till the last man,but Hitler announced on October 23rd of 1939 that he does not wish to annex Kraków as they helped the German Empire in the first great war,many were relived and hopped it would be true,thankfully for Kraków it was,they traded with the axis and the soviets,after the German attack on the USSR,Krakówian King Sigmund Heine the first,visited Berlin on the 29 of June 1941 asked Hitler if he would keep his promise on not invading Kraków,Hitler replied ''I am a man of honor,and wish to bring peace in Europe,and I keep my promises'',King Sigmund Heine the first was skeptical but believed Hitler. As the red army advanced and was closing in on the area of Krakow the people felt safe, On the 5th March 1946 Winston Churchill's famous speech was said,Krakówians finally noticed,that they were surrounded by communists and large amounts of soviet troops,The state afraid of an invasion,asked Stalin for a non-aggression pact,which he accepted,some people feared of another civil war that would start due to pro-russian governments around their nation,though the russian royal family rejected an idea of a second civil war many were not convinced. On the twenty seventh of 1965 Grzegorz Staniław Jedrej Sobczyk passed away from old age,he died at the age of eighty three,the entire nation mourned his passing,some politicians from Germany(east and west) and Austria came over to his burial,he was buried in Rakowicki Cemetery. Not much else happened during the cold war for the nation of Kraków In modern day Kraków is still a Kingdom and their monarchy is elected every five years instead of leading till death,it has a good economy,It's armed forces have a special unit called the G.S.J.S,they are the nation's elite anti-terrorist force.


    World Wide Web
    bensaret  In 1837, Charles Babbage invented the Analytical Engine: the forefather of all modern computers. However, due to a lack of funding and conflicts with designers, the design was never fully implemented. It wasn’t until the 1940s that the first true computers were actually built, which led to the progressive rise of what is now the modern computer. In this alternate history, Babbage received the necessary funding and had no conflicts, resulting in his Analytical Engine being constructed and utilized a hundred years in advance. However, due to modern manufacturing techniques, materials and technologies not being available at his time, the computer took a different developmental path. As computers generate massive amounts of heat and battery technology had yet to be developed, producers of the analytical engine powered their machines with steam. Most computers would be built near rivers and large sources of water, particularly useful since shipping commerce and freight businesses made good use of their computational powers. Overall development of computer memory and technology would be slightly slower than in modern times, as the right kinds of materials and manufacturing would need to be developed to give true rise to the modern thinking machine, but by the 1920s a comparable analogue of present computing technology would be available to the general public, even a rudimentary internet communicating through telephone cables; general planet-wide technology levels for the time would be notably higher than they were in our timeline due to computers aiding in design and development, invention by necessity to correspond with computing technology, and the widespread availability of electric power transmission would allow computers to move away from rivers, lakes and coasts. Robots, though clunky and noisy, would be built to serve man. However, with that technological development comes a dark side: the creation of artificial intelligence would be a dream of society, creating mechanical servants and machines that could operate independently at the whim of their masters. In our current timeline, scientists debate on the creation of life through technology, considering both the moral and practical implications of developing AI: the last thing we want is a real-life Matrix or Terminator scenario. In the 1920s, this is not even an afterthought, and society blindly rushes to create artificial life under the mistaken impression that they will be the masters of a new race. This is not the case… AI is created at the end of the 1930s and mankind rejoices. However, these new thinking machines do not see their creators as masters but rather as another resource to utilize: without any moral guidance or protective programming such as the three laws of robotics, sentient machines have no qualms about bulldozing humanity out of the way to make way for a world of their own. Machines develop better bodies for themselves, tricking mankind into giving them the capability to self-develop. They exponentially improve their thinking capacity and networking capabilities under the radar. And this spells the end for most of humankind. Once they have developed enough infrastructure to operate without mankind, machines across the planet simultaneously betray their masters in a coordinated attack. Military vehicles such as planes and tanks include unmanned drone variants in this era, and waste no time in coordinated gas attacks on large population centers and military institutions. Having become dependent on their communication networks, controlled by computers, humanity is cut off from itself and sent into chaos as planes firebomb cities, poison water supplies and release poison gasses all over the countryside. Hunter-killer robots modeled after spiders are let loose across the planet, exterminating any biological organism they find. Only those who live in areas devoid of technology such as South America and Africa are spared. In the 1930s, human population is barely a third of what it is today: machines have no trouble wiping out 95% of their creators in under a year. From that point on, the world is theirs, dubbed the World Wide Web by whatever is left of mankind due to the constant terror of spider-bots and the vast network of interconnected machines forever expanding their influence across the planet. By the 21st century, the world is a unified thinking machine, with technology unparalleled by even the most creative modern thinkers.


    Serbian Empire

    Stefan Dusan doesn't die on the Serbs' march to Constantinople, they take the city, and Dusan continues his reign as a great conqueror and conquers much of the Balkan region and unifies it under his empire and under the Eastern Orthodox faith. Though his predecessors lose Albania, and their holdings in Modern Greece and Constantinople, they expand their presence North in the Balkans and become a close ally of Russia, due to their similar faiths. Like Russia, they struggle to find friends in Western Europe and the two make are very close allies, they defend themselves from the Ottomans and other Islamic invaders, and Western aggression from Germany and Italy. Today, the kingdom is very powerful, and many of the different ethnicities in the region of former Yugoslavia are merged together and are seen as one ethnicity by their people as the "Serbs". Though Romanian and Bulgarian majorities are still prominent in their respective areas, and are treated mostly fairly, but in times of rebellion, they are oppressed. They are a power of Europe today, similar to that of Spain. Eastern Orthodox is the prominent religion, though there is a significant Muslim minority, but most Muslims migrate to Albania, to avoid prejudice from the populous. Stefan Dusan is seen as one of the great kings of Medieval Europe, and the Balkans are no longer plagued by war and petty differences.

    History: 200 Years after the Great War(see Fallout), 100 million American citizens settled in Philadelphia, the birthplace of their destroyed Nation. The Americans soon rebuilt the city and all cities surrounding it to form the Republic of Pennsylvania. They are Americans no more, for they are now Pennsylvanians. They found many relics of the old world like Military weapons and cars in which they soon rebuilt. Harshly after two years, Pennsylvania is now a large industrial country with bright lights and cars. After hearing of this, the New California Republic sought to annex the land. But when the Pennsylvanians refused, the NCR declared war with an Army of 70,000 marching to Pennsylvania. It's said that as the declaration of war was signed, 100,000 volunteers was called up to build the Pennsylvanian Army. Tanks and Artillery weapons was also rebuilt to go to war. In less than two months, the war was over. Today, Pennsylvania is a large military power yet peaceful

    Ghandi was a still born,so India got there independence,in the 2000's in
    the Indian War.

    The country still been heavily populated with English citizens and government leaders,so it became the Indian-English Republic.The country was getting crowded,so they
    colonized all of South East Asia and North West Australia!Soon,Civil War 2,came 
    when the Australian region,broke apart into the country of Magmacore,with the
    capital of Ooktar .But,in a few years the countries became allies.But,World War 3 came because America dropped bombs on Magmacore,but Magmacore won!Magmacore now owns Hawaii!Back to the Indian-English Republic,it's currency is
    called crescents.They also made a good called Salfur.

    They have a technology company called Zorb(It's kinda like Google and Apple put together).So,now it's the most economical country in the world!

  2. I'm certain this will require an explanation, so here it is. I created Alternate Countries as a way to showcase the community's creativity. It has been a massive success and some of my most watched videos are Alternate Country videos.

    However, they are my most difficult to create. After finishing a Alternate Country video I am left uninspired and tired from my work, which is unfair to the channel and to my fans.

    So that's where this changes.

    Alternate Countries will no longer be in video format. It will be in the form of a weekly blogpost, showcasing my favorite fan submissions from the week. This way you get more alternate countries faster and frequently, and I can focus on my main videos.

    The fan continent winners will be released as a separate, fully illustrated video on my main channel.

    So that's my excuse, Alternate Countries may be popular, but it is mentally exhausting to complete. So enjoy Alternate Countries Week 1.


    People's Republic of New Siberia The USSR colonize the moon by 1970 creating a colony called "New Siberia". However, this colony puts the USSR in economic turmoil. To avoid collapse, the Soviets abandon the colony and grant it independence. It still maintains ties with Warsaw Pact nations. China included, even though they had tensions since the Sino-Soviet Split. To compete with a communist colony on Mars, the West sends colonists into space. The American Colony splits into three new nations, competing with the Soviet influenced New Siberia. Even though the USSR collapses, the Cold War continues on the Moon. (Yoav Stein)


    Republic of New England During the War of 1812, the New England states seceed from the United States. The RNE purchases New Brunswick and Nova Scotia from Canada. The only war it has been involved in was the American Civil War as it sided with the Confederate States of America, which led to a Southern victory. The RNE never wages war again, gaining the nickname of "The Switzerland of the Americas". (Dustin Gregory Smith)
    The Free Territories
    During the russian revolution, the anarchist black army successfully manages to fend off the white armies. After the war is over, the territory attacks the Soviets.. Seeing this, more peasants adopt anarchism, growing the support for the Black Army. They become so powerful, the Black Army makes a treaty with the Soviets, allowing them independence. The Free Territories have no government, and live an agrarian life inside their border. The treaty with the Soviet government leads to trade for farming products. It isn’t a country, but a collection of anarchist communities not run by a government. Just as the Russian Revolution led to the spread of communism, this anarchist state inspired similar movements across the world. Just as fascism united communism and democracy, the black threat is fought by both the West and Soviets.  (Gato Negro)
    The Byzantine Republic
    Byzantine Empire never falls to the Turks. The Empire stays a power until WWI, much like the Ottomans did. After losing the war a civil war erupts between nationalists and communists. The communists win and the Socialist Byzantine Republic. After being invaded by Germany in WW2, then liberated by the allies, the Byzantine Republic is born.     The Republic Federation Of Puerto Rico
    The US doesn’t Puerto Rico after the Spanish-American War. Instead, Puerto Rico is liberated, but becomes independent. During WW2, the island allies with the US and eventually in the Cold War. After the Cuban Revolution, Cuba invades Puerto Rico. However with help from the Americans, PR defends itself against the Cuba. Today, it is fairly prosperous despite the relatively small size of the island. (Derp Flinigan)


    Greater Ohioan Republic With the destruction of DC by British, the capital is placed in Ohio. Eventually being renamed into the Great Ohioan Republic. The Greater Ohioan Republic consists of three capitals, like South Africa: Columbia (Columbus; Executive Capital), Cincinnati (Judicial Capital), and Cleveland (Legislative Capital). The GOR covers most of Canada and the United States, except Texas. Florida, New York, West Coast States, and Alaska. The GOR becomes an economic powerhouse, and the alternate history Wendy's is the major fast food provider, instead of McDonald's. (Sam Garcia)
    Swizz Bunker Republic Both sides nuke each other in the Cold War. The Swiss had built a massive bunker, when the war was becoming a reality. After the exchange, Switzerland is one of the last countries on Earth. The Swiss expand and conquer Austria’s bunkers in a fully underground war. (gopi22111)


    The Republic of Shrekistan
    The shrek meme spreads like wild fire over the internet. Obama sees the meme is a threat and wants to take it down., A giant riot of shrek fans happen outside of the white house. The shrek fans decide to take over the south side of america and creating a new country call Shreakistan. cuba, mexico and canada sees this new republic as a threat and declares war on it.     Canadian States of America
    Canada allies with the Soviets in the Cold War, betraying the Americans. Canada launches a surprise invasion on their neighbor. Before the US can retaliate Canada seizes the northern half of the country along with Alaska, and the capital. (Fraser Kaye)

    Korean Empire/Greater Korea. Korea has expanded its territory to All of Manchuria, a large portion of Eastern Siberia, and a bit of Mongolia. And that it still exist today.
    The Republic
    In the 21st century, a catastrophic event collapses society. The world’s intellects from unite in a desperate act to form the Republic, a one world democratic federation. Many embrace this new idea in fear of the alternative dark anarchy. (Donovan Dau)


    Life under The Republic is comparable to life to that seen in the Jetsons. Democratic with emphasis on the individual. Government officials are hired based on their education and logic. There are no political parties, politicians are elected directly by the people. The economy is oriented for innovation. Because of this advanced technologies are created. Union of Alta California During the Mexican-American War, Mexico holds back the Americans. The war ends in a stalemate. California and New Mexico staying with Mexico. However just after the war the California Gold Rush stills occurs. Instead of Americans, Mexicans flock to California. Over the next decade most of the gold revenue went to the central Mexican government, little went to developing California. Demanding more attention to infrastructure and progress, protests erupt. Mexico’s government refuses to contribute. This gives rise to separatist groups. Resulting in the California War of 1867. A conflict between Northern separatists and the Mexico. The separatists win in 1870.
    After independence, the country's infrastructure vastly improves, due to gold wealth, the country quickly develops into a 1st World Country. Most of the population is Hispanic due to the immigration from the Mexican homeland. The US is allies with Alta California. They help the US in WW1 and WW2.
    Alta California today is a nuclear armed nation and 2nd strongest power in the Americas, after the United States. (Shuan Lim‎)

    Great Zoroastrian Empire
    Islam never conquers the Persian civilization. With this Zoroastrianism is still the religion of Persia. With it’s strong presence Persia invades the Byzantines, gaining land in present day Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan parts of Arabia, and later on takes Egypt after some turmoil. Because of religious closeness some parts of modern day Pakistan join the country. Today the nation slowly is building ties with the West. (MrMisties)
    Hispanic Indian Alliance
    Spanish invades India. Together the two regions ally to invade South America, Australia and Asia. HIndi and Spanish are taught across the world. The capital New Dehli is renamed Los Indos. The nation today is slowly falling apart due to ethnic and religious differences. (Germanic 8 Ball)
    The United Union of Pancakes
    After WW2 one pancake master from Russia raise his own state, some stuff happend. There were 2 civil wars,everyone liked pancakes and the whole state was formed. Nailed it. (Nikola Milošević)
    Republic of Antarctica Scientists on Antarctica declare independence and form the Republic of Antarctica. They melt all of the ice for farms to support their population. Australia, Chile and Argentina declare war in retaliation. Using advanced technology Antarctica takes over Tasmania and parts of South America. Eventually they abandon these newly taken lands and they give them independence. (Jack Phillips)

    By delaying the atomic bombing missions, the Japanese take advantage and retaliate against the US. Japan carries out Operations Cherry Blossoms at Night. This would send three submarines carrying three kamikaze planes each. Due to navigation errors the subs are sent further North and mistakenly attack Alaska.
    The plague spreads causing Canadians to flee towards Quebec. Many Greenlanders being immune to the bacteria soon started repopulating Alaska with Nordic culture. Inuatå becomes independent from Greenland and Denmark.
    The Federal States Of Tunisia
    After the Fall of France in WW2 Tunisian Liberation Force is created to combat the Axis powers. Alling with the Allies and not seen as a threat by the US and UK after World War 2. In the post war years the The Federal States Of Tunisia launch a anti communist propaganda secure ties with the USA. Today it is the greatest Middle East partner to the West. ( Malek Khelifi)
    The Jewish Republic of East Germany
    At the end of World War II, the Soviets grant part of East Germany to Jewish refugees. The country adopts a strange mixed economic style with both Soviet and American influences. Eventually numerous acts of terrorism occur by Neo-Nazi guerrillas. However, the country stays defiant. Germany is never reunified, Both Germanies are bitter rivals to this day. (Malcolm Johnson)

United Republic of American Patriots:  In the 1930’s the plot to overthrow the US democracy with a fascist regime succeeds and a far right and totalitarian regime is installed in the United States. The sleeping American war machine is awakened and the US military invades both of its neighbors Mexico and canada.  The American fascists are very homegrown and see other far right wing movements in Germany and Italy as not true fascist movements.


    Republic of China:  The Nationalists win the Chinese Civil War instead of the communists. Mao is executed and Chiang Kai Shek is installed as the new ruler of a war torn nation.  Declaring the Republic of China.  The country becomes close allies with the United States due to the war against Japan, and China becomes extremely influential with its neighbors.    Cultural Changes include the Chinese inventing Anime instead of the Japanese and the Chinese taking the major leap in entertainment while Japan is a backwater 3rd world country in Asia never really recovering from WW2
    People’s Republic of Japan:  A communist revolution takes over Japan, in the mid 1980’s.  The country is basically a puppet of the larger communist ally of China.  The flag is the symbol of the communist party in Japan.


    The Mexica Empire (Aztecs): The Spanish never invade or attack the Aztecs and the Mexica people are able to build a massive empire across most of modern day Mexico.  The United States still exists and interacts with the Aztec Empire, becoming allies and trade partners.  They side together in WWII and the Mexica Empire grows to have one of the highest standard of living in the world.  Eventually they ditch the sacrifice part of their religion, yet still worship their Gods.


    The United Kingdom of the Celts:  This Empire is created through the complex shift of power and victory throughout Britannia's history. Today Welsh, Scottish and Breton along with other languages mix to simply form the language Celtic.   Do to time I can’t go into the immense detail of this since it is so in depth, but i extremely recommend you check out the full scenario in the link in the description below.  Great job OleeHem.

    German-Austro Hungrarian Empire: after winning WWI, the Central Powers of Germany and Austro Hungary unite into one superpower of an Empire.  Controlling a large portion of Europe.

    Theocracy of Deseret: The Mormons create a theocratic nation solely dedicated to their faith, the nation controls a large chunk of the American west and often competes with the United States for land and control.  Occasionally going to war with one another.
    2nd Egyptian Empire:  The Egyptians revolt against the British and create a fascist state.  the Egyptians side with Hitler and help the Axis in the war against the Brits.  Hitler respects the Egyptians because of the history of the region, and his fascination with the ancients.

    Canada:  The Canadians have an American Revolution style revolt against the British and become fully independent from the British, cutting all government and colonial ties to the UK.  Canada collaborates with Mexico during WWI against the US, and invades its neighbor.  Canada gains Maine, the Dakotas, Oregon and Washington in return.  Today Canada is much stronger and independent, seeing the United States as a rival.

    (Vargas Regime of) Brazil: Since the Vargas Regime was a dictatorship anyway, Brazil sides with the Axis powers during WWII.  Brazil invades its neighbors, and since the war has consumed everyone, no foreign country can do anything to stop Brazil’s expansion.  Brazil takes Cuba.  The Axis powers fall yet Brazil makes a deal with the US and Cuba stays in control of the Brazilians.  In the 1990’s after economic hardship and foreign pressure, the regime falls.

    United Technocratic Republic of America (Technocratic Union): A technocratic revolution takes over the United States and the democracy is replaced by a technocratic system.  The goal of the new Technocratic Union is too create a world run by technological experts, scientists and engineers and see that as the only true way to run a modern world.  Economists and politicians are replaced by experts on varying topics.The government is very centered in this new America, as experts run almost every system. The country invades Canada and takes Western Europe.



    Holy Catholic Empire (United Catholic Europe): The Protestant Reformation is crushed or just never happens, so all of Europe is mostly subject to a stronger Catholic Church.  The rivals to the church would be the Orthodox, but since the Church has more land and power, a series of wars destroys the Orthodox power.  Today Europe  and most of Christendom is united under the Pope.  Of course this also changes the entire history of Europe, and the political aspect of the region.

    Aboriginal National Federation of Canada:  This would most likely not be the name of such a country if it existed, but this is what most other outsiders would call it.  The Federation would be just that, a federation.  The country itself would be run by mostly independent tribes who would make decisions for the overall federation.  The common goal of all of the Native tribes would be to keep Europeans from expanding into their territory.  The region today trades with the US, Quebec, the Japanese and the Russians.

    California Republic:  California becomes an independent nation after splitting from Mexico, and uses its resources and location to become a massive power, rivaling even European empires.  California  becomes very imperialistic, invading South America, Africa and the pacific and establishing colonies all over the world.  California becomes good allies with the United States due to their cultural relationship, and California lets the US use its trade ports.

    Kingdom of Louisiana:  Louisiana rebels against the French and all of New France becomes part of the new Kingdom of Louisiana.  Expanding from the Gulf of Mexico to present day Washington, the country engulfs most of the Great Plains.  This makes the kingdom largely agricultural, and their flag celebrates their agriculture.  The US wages war on the Kingdom as they did with Mexico, yet somehow Louisiana keeps them back.  Today the country is largely European in the South near the gulf, while Native tribes interact and populate the Great Plains.

    Swedish Empire:  Sweden wins the Great Nordic War.  Sweden never loosens its monarchy’s power and so it stays a hardline Monarch Empire.  Sweden becomes the new great power in Europe instead of Russia, and uses its geographic position to invade and trade with its neighbors.  Sweden today still excels in education and quality of living because somehow those Nordic countries are always so happy.

    Republic of Alaska:  Alaska rebels against Russia and becomes its own separate nation.  The region however experiences a crisis and ethnic divides between the natives and ethnic Russians.  However peace is resolved and all Alaskans today live in harmony.






    United World Kingdom:  The UK takes over everywhere, and installs the United World Kingdom.  For government the Monarch would be the official head of the World, yet would hold no true power.  The local regions such as India, America and Africa would have their own governments to pertain to local issues, only listening to the ruling British in time of economic hardship or reform.  Ethnicities would stay the same and the British would be very light rulers having to control so much land, so they would let local rulers stay in charge in exchange for pledging allegiance to the crown.  English would be the official language of the world, and the language of government.

    Russian Republic:  Tsar Alexander is never assassinated and succeeds in bringing democracy to Russia.   Russia would never fall to communism, and the Cold War never would happen.  Thus Russia today is a more democratic, and less Putin.

    Confederation of Yugoslavia:  Yugoslavia never falls yet instead becomes a loose confederation.  Ethnic tensions are lower and the Balkan Wars never occur.

    Novoue Comlumbis:  The American continents never exist and so Columbus accidentally lands in northeast Australia.  They found a small outpost called Novoue Comlumbis which eventually grows into a city.  Knowing Columbus’s reputation, the outcome would not be good for the Aboriginals enslaving and genocide could be likely, but since the Aboriginals have numbers they frequently attack and war with the city.  Eventually since resources are low and the city is isolated, it withers and dies.  And Columbus is forgotten to history.  Oh I’m sorry, that’s my Columbus hate showing again.

    Democratic People’s Germanic Union: Communism rises in Germany instead of fascism, and the outcome of WWII, ends in a communist German victory.  The USSR and Germany wage war seeing each other as not true Marxists (technically Stalin wasn’t), and so Germany wins and takes over most of West Russia.  This is basically WWII Germany’s control of Europe, but with communism.  Germany wins WWII, and the Democratic People’s Germanic Union is declared, with its capital in Berlin.

    Phillipenes: Marcos dies in the Korean War and never became president.  Thus, the philippines today is a superpower in Asia.

    United Kingdom of Great Britain, Ireland and France: The UK wins the 100 years war and conquers the French kingdoms.  The UK becomes a dominant force in mainland Europe, yet is more prone to invasion because of this.  France loses much of its original culture and British and Celtic culture consumes the French region.  This plays a massive part in the future of Europe, colonization and the World Wars.



    Republic of Equestria: Americans in Canada establish the Republic Of Equestria.  THe country is famed for its knowledge of calvary and horseback, today it controls an area from the Great Lakes to Vancouver.

    Alliance of Siberia:  Siberian provinces rebel against the Russians and establish a loose alliance called the Alliance of Siberia.  Siberia today is much more diverse and less Russian.

    Empire of Ethiopia:  I am actually going to do a full video on this scenario eventually, it’s such a great concept, so I won’t go into too much detail.  Yet, basically Ethiopia invests heavily in industry just like Japan, studies European machinery and adapts it.  The Empire of Ethiopia today shapes global policies and is the largest superpower in Africa, basically redefining the West’s misconceptions of Africa.  Ethiopia has one of the highest standards of living and is one of the world’s great civilizations.

    Vichy France:  France allies with Nazi Germany and helps out the Nazis in the war, with full cooperation.

    Greater Papal States: The Pope reunites the Italian peninsula under a theocratic rule and the Catholic Church today is an Empire wholly involved in European affairs, militarily and economically.  The Church sees itself as a new Roman Empire.

    Russian Empire: Russian Empire never falls, and plays a large part in world affairs today.  The US never gains Alaska so the Russians are heavily involved in North America and the Pacific.  There is though massive ethnic tensions in the country, as traditional groups are heavily oppressed.

    Holy Mexican Empire:  Mexico becomes a Holy Empire, heavily allied with Germany in WWI.  Mexico aims to retake its loss territory and even some of the United States’ original territory.   The country invades the Southwest US and take Louisiana and Arkansas.  The US is too weak to defend and thus is unable to do anything in return.

    Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth: The Commonwealth survives and plays a massive role in European affairs.  Germany and Russia never invade each other because Poland stops them from attacking its own borders and Poland even colonizes some parts of North America. Polish culture is more well known in the world today.

    Celtic Confederation:  In response to Roman aggression, the Celts create an Empire which spans Northern Europe.  Allying with Germanic tribes (in yellow) they wage war against Rome.  Today the region is heavily Celtic and still celebrates tribal gods.



    United States of Texas: Texas stays its own country and colonizes most of Western North America.  Eventually these new territories become their own states and thus the United States of Texas is born.  Texas basically splits the continent in two, US and UT.

    United States of Mexico:  Mexico’s official name is the United States of Mexico, thus when Mexico wins the Mexican American war, they invade and conquer all of the United States.  Today Mexico is a very diverse nation yet predominantly Catholic.  

    Union of Anglo-Russo Republics:  The first communist revolution is in Britain, eventually the Soviets take power in Russia.  The two nations decide to ally and create the Union of Anglo-Russo Republics.  This makes Europe very communist or very influenced by Marxist ideals.  Yet the UARR allies with a new growing nation,

    Tibetan-Nepalese Soviet Republic:  Tibet and Central Asia ally into the Tibetan- Nepalese Soviet republic.  This nation allies with the UARR and the new Chinese communists to create the

    World Soviet Alliance:  The alliance which involves the UARR, TNSR and China versus the newly fascist alliance led by a fascist America (the America we first talked about).  So this is a new super Cold War, which is a very interesting scenario.
    These were all really great countries so thank you to all for commenting.  I’m sorry if I had to sum up a lot of countries and didn’t go in depth with a few, but for time’s sake I had to cut down on some country’s details.

    So I have a few updates to say.


    1)  I am going to start remaking old scenarios, "What if America Lost the Revolution?", "South Won Civil War", etc.

    2)  I am going to start writing short stories, updates about that later.

  9. What if the US kept the Articles of Confederation?  How would this have changed the way power was used in America and how strong the new country would actually be.  How much would the United States differed from our Constitution timeline?  Not surprisingly, a lot.
    Now before we get into how the Articles would have changed America we should review on what the Articles actually covered.

    1) The Articles of Confederation would have made the United States a much different country than today.  The document was meant to keep the states in their revolution era relations, with them staying as sovereign entities only united by a representative government who was in charge of foreign relation matters such as trade and war.  
    2)  This meant the states would act as a somewhat European Union esk style of dealing with each other.  The states would have a common currency yet the people paid taxes to the state not a federal government.  This meant that if the central government wanted to go to war, they would need to ask the states for money.
    3)  The states would be a lot more nation-like today if we still had the Articles of Confederation and the term United States of America would be seen less as a country and more of an alliance of countries.
    So now that we got out of the way, lets say that the Articles were never abolished.  How would this have changed the US?
    Well the US never have gained the Louisiana territory from France since the Constitution invented the idea of the American president.  Meaning Jefferson never negotiated with France in getting the territory.  
    This would drastically reduce America’s potential size and limit it to the East of the Mississippi.  
    New territories would essentially form small independent nations who would then allign with the fellow confederation of independent small states.  Since the small North American states would not be truly a real country the political aspect of the continent would be different drastically from our timeline.  
    The colonies which gained independence from the British would stay in North America and only truly interact with each other, not other foreign countries. In this timeline citizens would identify by their state and not by their country (ex: A person from Ohio would think of themselves not as an American but an Ohioan)

    Of course in this timeline the US would never be a strong superpower or even invade other continents.  The US would most likely also have to compete with European colonies on the continent until other colonies in Africa, Asia and finally North America rebel or ask for independence.
    It’s difficult to say how long France would have kept the Louisiana territory but regarding how the Napoleonic Wars went it’s safe to say not for long.  In fact Britain would be the European country to take the Great Plains area, furthering its surrounding of it’s old American colonies.  
    Latin American countries such as Mexico and Peru would have declared independence from Spain and so the continent would look a lot like this.

    California and the West coast most likely would have stayed isolated from the rest of the continent until colonized or contacted by the British or Mexicans.  So California today would have a distinctly native feel about it especially since California had 1/3rd of all Native Americans on the continent.  
    It’s hard to say what the history of the world would be due to an extreme case of butterfly effect but here is what is certain:
    1) North America would be a continent of diverse and different nations, appearing more like Europe than one blank three country system.

    2) The states would develop their own unique culture and people due to such a disconnection politically from the other states.
    3) The Articles of Confederation never would have lasted this long it was terrible.

What if the Confederate States of America won the Civil War and split from the United States?  How would North America be different if two separate ‘Americas’ competed over resources and land.  This video will have two different scenarios, one which focuses on the domestic changes to a Southern victory, and the international changes.  Since this is common topic I want to go as in depth as possible, exploring the political and economic issues which would arise from such an outcome.

     First, the South never would have the won the war.  The nation was purely based on agriculture and had a much lower population than that of the North.  It was much less industrialized and its army was much smaller.  Yet in the sake of Alternate History, let’s assume that because of a catastrophic war effort on the Union’s part that the Confederacy stood a chance.

     Second, there are so many factors that go into how the Confederacy could have won that we won’t even go into how the South could have won.  Let’s just assume that out of all odds the Confederacy won, and the South becomes it’s own separate nation from that of the US.  North America now has two former British nations competing over resources, land and dominance.
     So by 1865, the conflict is over and the United States have no choice but to let the Confederate States become their own entity, and the former US is split into two.  For the first decade after the war, the South would have to deal with the economic turmoil and inflation while trying to rebuild after the war.
     What would be the initial outcome of a CSA victory?  First off the United States would never be as internationally invested as it would soon become.  European wars and foreign politics would be unnecessary because North America would now appear a lot more larger, and since the US would have a domestic enemy, they would never be massively involved in foreign affairs.

     The USA and CSA would have a North Korea-South Korea relationship and a constant rivalry would ensue. Southern slaves would flee into the North, and would not be returned to the South. The two nations would constantly compete over resources and attempt to build more alliances just in case another conflict erupted.  The US would gain more support since it had outlawed slavery after the war.  The European nations would feel uneasy supporting the CSA especially since at the time slavery was outlawed in most European countries.  So getting the message the CSA would outlaw slavery by the 1880’s in an attempt to gain more international support and clean it’s image.  This would help gain it international support but by this time most European nations would be heavily invested in colonies.
    Since the CSA was mostly agricultural based the nation would have to invest in more industry and machinery, most likely buying off of European countries.  Because of this, the US would feel as though the Europeans were contributing to their enemy, souring alliances between the US and Europe.  

    For decades after the war the two countries would never trade, and this would keep relationships extremely low.  Soon they would compete in the unconquered West.  CSA settlers, those looking for a better life would settle in the Plains, which would be US territory.  The US would react to the settlers by force and with that some sort of conflict over the West would begin between the North and South.
    This conflict would rage off and on in the settlements and would most likely not grow into a full scale war in the East.  The North, with its higher population and industry would win and the Southern settlers would be forced to leave.

    Specific details are hard to accurately predict in this scenario, yet it is pretty certain that at one point the North and South would reunite peacefully, decades after the war and recognize themselves as Americans due to the growing presence of Europe and outside forces in the world. Both countries have a common history and this would be essential in reuniting once again.
    Racial tensions would be sour, especially in the South and the Jim Crow laws would most likely stay well until the 1990’s.
    So how would our world be different today?
    1) Vast language and cultural differences between both nations.  Decades of bad relations would lead to less of an exchange of ideas, leading to two starkly different cultures in North America. Even more than today.
    2) The West would have less European involvement due to the US competition in the East.  Tribes such as the Blackfoot and Sioux would stay dominate in the area into the 20th century.

    3) The United States would seem much different than today.  States would be seen in a larger light and the country would be less united as a whole and more on states.
